What is an Endodontist?

An endodontist is a dental specialist who diagnoses and treats tooth pain and performs root canal treatments. They are also known as root canal dentists.

Endodontists repair tissues inside the tooth and work to save the natural tooth. They specialize in treating tooth pain, infections, and other diseases related to the interior or “pulp” of the tooth. 

A dentist may refer a patient to an endodontist if X-rays and other tests do not reveal why the pain is persistent. 

What do Endodontists do?

• Diagnose and treat tooth pain, especially persistent or severe pain.

• Perform root canals, which involve removing the infected or inflamed pulp from the tooth and sealing the canal.

• Treat other problems affecting the root, such as abscesses, cysts, and fractures.

• Use advanced techniques and technology, such as microscopes and specialized instruments, to perform precise procedures.
