What is a Pulmonologist?

A pulmonologist is a doctor who specializes in the respiratory system and lung conditions. They may also be called lung doctors, lung specialists, or chest doctors. 

They may also help patients in a hospital's intensive care unit (ICU) who are in respiratory failure. 

Pulmonologists may use a variety of techniques to diagnose and treat respiratory conditions:

• Using a tube with a light and small camera to look at your lungs and airways

• Measuring how much oxygen your body is getting

• Testing lung function

• Placing an electronic device called a pulse oximeter on your finger to measure your oxygen levels
